Dithering and Deferral

Do you put off buying things for no good reason other than you can? Or do you just buy on impulse? I used to be the total buy on impulse type, but slowly I’ve been a-changing and now, well, now, I procrastinate.

Let me tell you what I’m procrastinating over at the moment. I have a [...]

Frederic Malle Dans tes Bras

Finally got my little sample of Frederic Malle’s newest, Dans tes Bras.  Created by Maurice Roucel, it has notes of bergamot, clove, violet, jasmine, sandalwood, patchouli, salicylates, incense, Cashmeran (a mix of musk, woods, and resin), heliotrope and white musk.  DtB starts off very rooty and earthy, the dirt elements of woods and iris.  There’s some hints of [...]

Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle ~ En Passant

It’s funny the way you can almost taste lilacs before you smell them. Some ghost thirst speeds ahead of your nose in similar shape and recognition to the real thing, then suddenly vanishes before you can name the sensation.
En Passant moves with the butterfly kiss of lilacs fluttering in the wind, and brushes delicate across [...]

Twin Peaks: Iris Poudre, UDV Pour Elle, Ferre by Ferre

As improbable as some comparisons seem, like say contrasting a beaming, shinning Mercedes KLC to a tiny compact Smart, sometimes they hit the nail on the head: both cars are made by the same makers. There are of course countless details that separate them, but they are equally attended to for standards of quality.
Which brings us to our improbable theme today: The augustus scent of Iris Poudre by

A Trio of Puzzlers: Caron Farnesiana, L’Artisan Parfumeur Jour de Fête & Editions de Parfum Frederic Malle Une Fleur de Cassie

Review by Donna

I decided to review Caron’s Farnesiana as a personal challenge, since out of all the Caron fragrances I have tried it is the one that puzzles me the most, and I find it less approachable than even the austere Poivre or the majestic Bellodgia. (When I was too young to wear it, Bellodgia terrified me. I had no idea what kind of woman I would have to become to pull it off. I am not

Perfume Review: Frederic Malle Outrageous!

By Tom

Frederic Malle is one of the most interesting lines out there, with such rich and memorable scents ranging from from Angeliques sous la Pluie to Vetiver Extraordinaire. I don’t think there was one that I have smelled that I was merely indifferent to: all of the ones that I have smelled are heart-breaking, even if I couldn’t wear some of them in a million years.

The latest in the the

That Certain Je Ne Sais Quoi. The French-iest Perfumes

Writing the post about my favorite American scents made my mind wonder in the direction of yet another sweeping generalization. I realize that it is absolutely impossible to definitively describe French perfumery, the field is so large and so diverse, and perfumery as such is so closely associated in our minds (OK, in my mind) with France that the adjective, “French”, next to “perfume” is almost
