In selecting a perfume to fit in with Gucci’s sensibility, designer Tom Ford wanted a scent that would be reminiscent of the classic men’s fragrances of the 70s, with notes of spices, woods, amber and leather. This resulted in Gucci pour Homme, which many consider a successful update of the classic 70s style. Its top notes consist of white pepper, ginger, and pink bay, with middle notes of papyrus wood, and orris rhizome, and a base of amber, leather, vetiver and olibanum. This sleek, masculine, oriental woody scent was an instant classic from the moment it was launched.
